Myrrh Oil, Some Uses

Like Frankincense, Myrrh oil (Commiphora myrrha) is extracted from resin that oozes from very tough bark. It has a sharp, strong, woody scent. Ancient Greek soldiers used to carry Myrrh oil into battle for psychic protection, as well as first aid. Now we all tend to link it with Frankincense and stables and newborn babies.

Aromatic influences: Spiritual awareness, uplifting, releases stuck emotions, and motivates you to move forward. Soothing, releasing, opening.

Combines well with:

Frankincense, Sandalwood, Cypress, Juniper Berry, Red Mandarin, Geranium, Patchouli, Thyme, Peppermint, Spearmint, Wintergreen, Lavender, Pine, Pine Needles, Cinnamon Bark, Clove Bud, Ginger Root, Nutmeg, Coriander, Cardamom, Lemongrass, Palmarosa, Elemi, Rose, Rosewood

Ways to use it

  • G.R.A.S.
  • Non-toxic, non-irritant and non-sensitizing. Safe for all skin types.
  • To soothe tight, chesty coughs, vaporize 2 drops Myrrh and 4 drops Cedarwood. Inhale fumes deeply. (9)
  • Calms your breathing, enhances meditation.
  • Has common features with Frankincense because they share the same botanical genus.
  • Can help in treating digestive issues, even diarrhea. Gently massage into abdomen using clockwise strokes.
  • Creates a feeling of inner peace and tranquility.
  • Use a hot compress with 2 drops Myrrh and 2 drops Bergamot to draw out an infection (9)
  • Excellent for skin care.
  • Do not use Myrrh oil during pregnancy as it can induce contractions.
  • Is often used to bring on menstruation and to relieve painful periods.
  • Can be used to treat mouth ulcers and bleeding gums.
  • Strengthens and improves the condition of the skin.
  • Vaporize or diffuse 2 drops Myrrh and 4 drops Clove Bud to ease mental stress (9)
  • Was long used in perfumes, which seems odd. But the woody, balsamic scent works well as a base for perfume blends.

*Please note: With any recipe’s involving bath or massage blends, always test on a small part of your skin first before using all over your body. Please be sure your skin can handle the blend before being covered in it.

Soothe Bronchitis or Chest Infections

  • 4 drops Myrrh
  • 2 drops Spruce
  • 4 drops Bay Leaf
  • 1 tablespoon F.C.O. (Fractionated Coconut Oil)

Massage formula into the chest using slow, clockwise strokes. (9)

Relaxing Foot Bath

  • 4 drops Myrrh
  • 4 drops Roman Chamomile
  • 4 drops Orange
  • 3 drops Lemon
  • 1 teaspoon Jojoba

Fill a basin with warm/hot water, add formula. Soak feet and enjoy for at least 15 minutes. (8)

Dissolve Angry or Hurt Feelings

  • 2 drops Myrrh
  • 4 drops Rose Geranium
  • 1 tablespoon Jojoba

Add formula to warm/hot bath and soak for 20 – 30 minutes. Can also dissolve formula into 1 cup epsom salts and add to bath water to remove impurities in skin. (9)

Calming Massage

  • 4 drops Myrrh
  • 4 drops Red Mandarin
  • 4 drops Spruce
  • 3 drops Neroli
  • 1 tablespoon F.C.O.

Massage formula into shoulders, back of the neck and down the back. (8)

Problem Skin Care #1

  • 10 drops Myrrh
  • 10 drops Roman Chamomile
  • 5 drops Rosewood
  • 5 drops Lavender
  • 2 tablespoons Kukui Nut oil

Wash face thoroughly, then massage a portion of the formula into your skin. Apply daily. (8)

Problem Skin Care #2

  • 15 drops Myrrh
  • 10 drops Patchouli
  • 5 drops Geranium
  • 1 tablespoon Borage
  • 1 tablespoon Kukui Nut

Wash face thoroughly, then massage a portion of the formula into your skin. Apply daily. (8)

Problem Skin #3

  • 10 drops Myrrh
  • 10 drops Lavender
  • 10 drops Benzoin
  • 1 tablespoon Borage
  • 1 tablespoon Walnut

Wash face thoroughly, then massage a portion of the formula into your skin. Apply daily. (8)

Skin Wounds

  • 4 drops Myrrh
  • 2 drops German Chamomile
  • 4 drops Frankincense
  • 1 tablespoon F.C.O.

Apply formula to wound twice daily. (9)
