Mountain Savory Oil, Some Uses

The plant has been used as a culinary herb for centuries, most often as a digestive remedy. Mountain Savory (Satureja montana) oil has a clear, yellow look to it and the scent is a bit like a mixture chrysanthemums and juniper trees. It has a slight medicinal aroma to it and makes you think of a good bar of old-fashioned soap. Mt. Savory 2

Aromatic influences: Invigorates the energy. Stabilizes inner balance. Fresh, bracing and strengthening.

Combines well with:

Lavender, Pine Needle, Pine, Rosemary, Peppermint, Spearmint, citrus oils.

Points of interest

  • Raises blood pressure so it’s good for people with low blood pressure issues.
  • Closely related to the Thyme family. And like Thyme, has strong anti-fungal properties.
  • Has a high phenol count so will need to be diluted when used. Also, do not use on children.
  • Be very careful using on skin. Not good for those with delicate skin.
  • Is a strong antiviral and antifungal.
  • Mt. Savory 3Supports adrenal glands
  • Improves digestion
  • Recent research indicates possible anti-HIV properties. More study is needed, however.
  • Pain reliever
  • Works great when diffused for bronchial issues. The scent helps open the sinus and bronchial tubes. You can just open the bottle and sniff when needed.
  • Can help treat diarrhea. Put 1 drop Mt. Savory in 1 tablespoon carrier oil and massage into abdomen, using clockwise strokes.
  • Insect repellant.
  • Mainly you should inhale the scent and see how it makes you feel. And have fun with it!

Herb Garden Body Splash

  • 2 cups White VinegarMt. Savory 4
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1 drop Bay Leaf
  • 1 drop Mountain Savory
  • 2 drops Sage
  • 2 drops Thyme
  • 2 drops Clove Bud

Combine all ingredients in a glass jar or container. Store for 1 week, shaking occasionally to mix contents. Strain and pour into a tightly capped container.

  • 6 drops Lemon
  • 3 drops Pine
  • 1 cup White Vinegar

Mix together and use with a cleaning rag or sponge on your kitchen and bathroom countertops.
